Hoo hoo!
I am going to visit Kali on June 6th! I am brinding some chocolate truffles for him. Hoo hoo!
The new exhibit cost 18 million dollars and can house up to 5 bears... so that would be me, Kali, Petri, Snuffles and DJ. Hopefully it will be roomier than this pillow case.
Kali!
What ever happened to Knut by the way... any news Nibs?
Brinding?

It's pronounced 'Cully' FYI
like 'Gully'
Kali and I will probably be close friends I have the feeling.

Hey guys!
Only 4 more days until Duddles goes to visit Kali!!
I hope Kali likes his new home. Maybe Gulliver could bring him a free donut as a welcoming gesture to Sneech Louis?
I wonder if Kali will be into his fans, like Knut, or more shy like Ginger.
Hmmm...
Happy Kali Day!

Guys!
I heard that Kali was narcosleepy today and didn't wake up with his alarm, so Duddles missed him. But sounds like Duddles will try again tomorrow with PEACHES maybe.
But it sounds like Kali woke up later on and was pretty active for 30,000 zoo goers. Hopefully he wasn't too active and has energy left for some swimming tomorrow!

I went to the park to scope out the Kali sitch. Now that I know the layout it will make all future bear expeditions to visit Kali much easier.
It turns out Kali comes out on the dry land part around 9 AM. Today he briefly said hi to me and then went straight for the cool pools to beat the heat.
There are long lines to get to the pool viewing area - but if we get there around 8:45 it shouldn't be so bad.
Kali rocks!

Regarding Duddles' hair coat

Yo Duds, I think
this article explains all the issues you've been having:
“Animals like polar bears don’t put on as heavy a fat layer and they may not grow as thick a hair coat” in warmer places like St. Louis, Bircher says.
Kali misses Luna!

On my walk around the park I stopped by the zoo - it is open longer on Friday - Sunday. I followed Petri's instructions and found Kali playing in the pool with a floating ball!
I hung out and watched Kali for a good 10 minutes, and then left to let other people see. He seemed really happy even though I know he must miss Luna a whole lot.
Knut in the knews

Hey you Knut guys. I know we are moving on to talking about Kali, but Knut just popped up in the news (RIP Knut!). Scientists have finally figured out why Knut died - he had anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis (mini-nibs helped me type that out).
Apparently this is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own brain cells. It had only recently been described in humans and Knut is the first example of this happening in animals. Thanks to Knut if this happens again the animal will be able to be treated. Knut will save lives!
Gulliver says he knows about this disease because he read a book called 'Brain on Fire' about a woman who had the disease but survived. Apparently it can change your behavior in weird ways - so if Knut was acting strange when Lee saw him in Berlin maybe that is why.
Knut!

Hey you polar bear afficianados,
I just heard sad news that Klondike (the bear at the Philadelphia zoo) has died and she was the oldest polar bear in America at the age of 34.

Coldilocks is now the oldest US bear (also 34 at the Philly zoo).
I think Duddles is the next oldest!

Hey you zoo bear guys,
Two bears at the Cincinnati zoo (Berit and Little One) escaped through an open door! Luckily they have a double containment system which made sure the bears were still properly contained. We have a similar double containment system for Duddles where the first layer is being tucked in flannel and the second layer is a wall of insurmountable pillows.
