Musicals Gulliver Sees

It's about time we have a music section on these forums. We can't hold out any longer. Even if certain people don't have certain hardware required to hear sound....

Losers always whine about their best

Post by Nibs »

Big news for musical bear fans!

We all watched Come From Away this weekend on AppleTV and were very impressed.

Gulliver was so inspired he even made his own youtube video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxx5DA16VXU I can't get over how well this came together! I can't wait to see if we can find the right audience to appreciate it or are we the only ones who like 90s Nic Cage movies and modern Broadway shows?!

Dave also noticed that "Somewhere in the middle of nowhere" was sung to the same tune as RENT's What You Own. Lee thinks "38 Planes" sounded similar to Hamilton's Yorktown and I was trying to make a case that "Me and the Sky" was just a rewrite of Wicked's The Wizard and I!

There are no new ideas under the sun in Broadway lyrics! But we are here for each and every iteration of them!

New Hugh?

Post by Gulliver »

Hi, the Tonys happened recently and were hosted by Ariana who is famous for being Anita and in Sneechilton. She had a opening song where she mashed together lots of shows to give them a round of a-paws. Lee noticed a lot of musical Easter eggs and Peaches even noticed when they did his and Sneeches favorite song lyric from HadesSchlop.

My other favorite part was when Ariana sat on Andrew Garfield which you can watch here:

Will Ariana be the new Hugh and the next NPH?

Chess with Schlop

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Lee came to visit me and we went and saw Chess. The first night we just watched a few opening songs since I wasn't feeling fuzzy but then we came back and watched the whole show and Lee was nice enough to buy us tickets so we didn't have to sit too far back and the next night we came back again to watch only the first act from the free seats.

My favorite part was when Anatoly gets a banana during the tournament and then pretends to talk on it like a phone. Peaches and Sneeches really liked the referee's song where he did lots of jumps and splits.

It was really cool seeing a whole Muny show with Lee and she will be coming back to see Rent with me too.

Muny 2024

Post by Gulliver »

Hi. I watched the live announcement of the 2024 Muny season on youtube. Here are the shows:
  1. Les Nibs - I saw that once when it was very hot before they had installed the giant fans. The forest bears also once built a barricade from the show.
  2. DreamSchlops - all I know is they made a movie and Beyonce was in it, hopefully she can also star in the Muny show.
  3. The Little Mersneech - Lee and I still haven't seen the recent movie even though Sneeches really likes the Scuttlebutt song.
  4. Fiddler on the Schlop - I hope it won't be as scary as the ghost sequence in the movie version.
  5. Waitress - I heard that on Broadway they cook real pies and everyone in the theater can smell it, hopefully I will be able to smell it from the free seats.
  6. In the Schlops - Duddles told me he likes the message about how it is important to have a sueñito and he would like to one day lick a piragua.
  7. Anyschlop goes - Sutton Foster won a Tony for this so hopefully she can reprise her role in St Louis.

Hand crabs

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

Yesterday Lee and Mom and I went on an adventure in Forest Park and we popped by the Muny when they were rehearsing The Little Merschlop and we got to see the actors playing Sebastian the crab and Flounder the flounder which were funny looking hand puppets. Unfortunately we didn't get to see them rehearse a big music number but it was still exciting to see behind the scenes. Lee has plans to see the show when she comes back in a week but I might be too sleepy to go.

Also we stopped by the boat house for some raw tuna and Lee noticed a woman who fell out of a paddle boat and jumped into action to get the lifeguard to save her - Lee really saved the day because no one else was responding. Lee truly is a superhero!

We also saw a deer in the river on the way home (cool) and also a river rat (gross).

Hi.

Yesterday Lee and I braved a furious hurricane to go to the Muny to see The Little MerSchlop. Lee was able to use the power of body language to sweet talk an usher into giving us tickets which means we got to sit closer than usual. Then we got to see Ariel sing the first line of the show before there was a rain delay for an hour. Luckily the show was able to then run uninterrupted. I thought it was pretty snazzy with lots of cool effects like Ursula's tentacles being played by actors who had to bend over the whole time. Also they showed Ariel rescue Prince Eric (just like how Lee rescued that lady that fell in the lake at the Boat House) with stunt actors suspended from wires. Overall I give it two paws.

Soggy Bottoms

I've been loving these Gulliver reviews of Muny shows!

Here's a photo of our rain-delayed Little Mermaid experience. The audience really came prepared!

Tonight is the opening of Fiddler on the Roof and word on the street is that "Far From the Home I Love" is a real banger sung by a legendary star.
We're hoping Gulliver will walk by and report back.

We are excited to be in St Louis in 15 days to catch Jessica Vosk starring in Waitress (and make sure Schlop and Duddles are being given enough hugs and snacks).

Fiddler on the Schlop

Post by Gulliver »

Hi. I saw the whole show of Fiddler on the Schlop yesterday. My favorite songs were "To Life" and "Tevye's Dream" although Fruma-Sarah was quite scary and also I liked the bottle dance and none of the dancers dropped a bottle.

Hi. I saw Waitress at the Muny but it was sad because Lee came all the way to see it with me but then I got unfuzzy and didn't get to see it with her but I then saw it the next day by myself but was sad I didn't get to go with Lee. Lee is the number one Jessica Vosk fan and we saw her last year in Chess and she is also an Elphaba of the highest renown. Jessica did a good job carrying the show and she made lots of pies and DJ is very interested in what happens to the pies after the show but I am not sure. There was also a funny scene where they threw a baby around and I also liked the nerdy waitress friend who meets a nerdy guy and they get married. I appreciate Lee came all the way to see the show with me and hope she isn't too miffed that we didn't get to see the show together.

In the Schlops

Post by Gulliver »

Hi. I saw In the Heights. I also went back the next day to see Act 1 again. During the blackout scene at the end of Act 1 they all sing "Look at the fireworks" and each time they sing that the Muny shot off fireworks which was pretty cool and Lin even said so himself on Nibstagram.
My favorite song was 96,000 where all the characters talk about what they would do if they won the lotto. If I won the lotto I personally would give my share to Lee because Lee is the coolest.

Anyschlop Goes

Post by Gulliver »

Hi. The last Muny show was Anyschlop Goes and I saw the whole show even though it was very long. There wasn't as much tap dancing as I thought but some of the songs were pretty famous. It was written by Cole Porter who gets a shout-out from Usnavi in In the Schlops which is a pretty cool connection between the two shows. They will release next season's shows on Schloptober 30th and Lee and I have already voted for which shows we want to see and I hope if Lee comes back again I won't feel unfuzzy and have to miss the show.
