Harry Schloper

Post by mini-nibs »

I thought I should start a thread to discuss Harry Schloper. I know a lot of us like the books, and we might not have much to talk about now but later when the new book comes out we will be glad we already had this thread established to post in.

I just came across an interesting description of a writing style called "Plot Coupons":
A plot coupon is an object whose possession or use is necessary in order to resolve the conflict upon which the plot hangs, when this necessity clearly springs from the arbitrary decision of the author to make it so necessary. (The name is derived from a joke: when the characters have collected enough plot coupons, they can trade them in for the denouement.) For example, if the main plot of a novel concerns an ancient artifact that was broken into several pieces, and which must now be collected, reassembled, and activated in order to defeat an alien threat, the separate pieces of the artifact are surely plot coupons.
Sounds just like the next Harry Potter book, eh MaxiNibs? Neil Gaiman also said the first Sandman arc and Neverwhere are "Plot coupons." Can you guys think of any other "Plot Coupons" books out there? Let me know, they are my favorite types of books!

There is also something called a Plot Voucher, read all about it here:

Yo little nibster...

You are like WAY over my head, dude. Settle down for a minute, bro.

Plot COUPONS? Man, I just want $2.00 off my slice of pizza, ok... I don't care how you do it....

I don't need to collect every coupon just for one big discount... I'll take little discounts as I get them... ya dig?

Anyway, I think you should take some time to relax with Lola or Lulu or whatever and stop worrying about your grade in literary theory or whatever. You follow? I'm there for ya, man.

For all you Harry fans out there, here is a warning that Harry might die in the final book to prevent people from making sequels. Like death could actually stop Harry! Same thing happened with Sherlock Holmes but he came back.

Yeah I saw that too miniNibs. Whatever, it's just media hype. They aren't gonna kill Harry. That's ridiculous. Or RIDICULOSO as you might say.

Roddy Schloppy

Post by Gulliver »

Hi.

This might be a bit too high-brow for the Harry Schlopper thread, but maybe you guys would be interested to know that one of Jo Rowling's favorite authors is Roddy Doyle, and he has a new book out called Paula Spencer. I might just pick it up at the library next time I'm out.
Answer: This character studied medicine, "knowing it would be useful in long voyages"

Question: Who is Gulliver?

I was thinking about that a lot....

and then I was thinking more...

and I realized that "Roddy Doyle" is an anagram for "Roy Doddley."

Whoa, man.... I mean... it's so close to Duddles... Doddley... wow...

Curiosity killed the Shnood

Post by Shnoodles »

Hey you guys,

Well, it's pretty cold out here today - not much going on. I was just wondering - if you were a student at Schlopwarts Lee what house would you want to be sorted into?

I'm so excited for this next Harry Schlopper movie - apparently this is the one where Sirius tells Harry to call him Snuffles... I think! Do you think they will include that really important plot point in the movie, Lee? I hope so.

Hey guys!

Yeah, I hope that Snuffles is mentioned in the next film, Snuffles.

Speaking of which- it opens THIS WEEK!!! Are you excited, Shnoodles? Have you heard any preliminary reviews? I'm worried it's going to be too much action and not enough other stuff.

I hope that I would be in Gryffindor if I was at Hogwarts. What about you, Shnoodles?

Dress as Scabbers?

Post by lee »

Hey Shnoodles,

I think I'm going to go see Harry Schlopper tomorrow!! Very exciting. But it might be sold out...

Anysneech, I'll let you know how it is.

I picked up a toy magic wand when I was in Portland a while back. I wonder if I should bring it. :)
